Elevator Usage

Elevator Project

Getting on the elevator for 2 floors means we are wasting the amount of energy that we could fully charge our phones. Also, we could burn 3.95 calories per floor and halve the risk of heart attack by climbing stairs for 7 minutes a day over ten years. It is not that hard to make this a habit of in view of the fact that we are losing a considerable amount of energy each day and health benefits.

For this purpose, at first, we observed the usage of elevators at different times in a day. After the analysis of which elevators are the most used ones, it was the most efficient way to choose some elevators to make an observation on them.

In order to take an action about elevator usage and save the energy, we need to show the background of getting on the elevator. So, we designed some stickers that show facts about its energy consumption and motivates people not to use it.

After sticking these around elevators, it is the most important step to get the data about the difference of usage in order to analyze whether it works. The observation of change and analysis is the ongoing step.

This project is not like producing something and putting it on the market. If it works, it will be the success of the whole community of Koç University. Hence, the contribution of everyone is crucial for the success of the project.
